The CENTQUATRE-PARIS, through its line-up and artistic teams in residency, in collaboration with numerous partners (non-profits, social centers, educational establishments, especially universities) is engaging in local activism to effect significant and durable change within the local community.

The aim of these initiatives is to encourage people to take possession of an art space and of artistic and cultural practices, following the priority concerns of the local community, in close relationship with the local players and organizations. Through these actions, the CENTQUATRE-PARIS acts as a living space and as real character of the city, experienced in various ways by as many people as possible, fulfilling its hosting purpose for the community.

TAP workshops in Paris and Pantin

In response to the request for proposal for la réforme des rythmes scolaires (the reform of educational rhythms), the CENTQUATRE-PARIS develops TAP (Temps d’activités périscolaires - Time for extracurricular activities) intended for children from neighboring schools in collaboration with numerous institutions of the North-East Side of Paris. These workshops cover various areas (innovation, live performances, visual arts) and are led by our team of artists, each of them building their workshops around our current programming. The workshops take place every Tuesday and Friday outside of the Parisian schools’ holidays.

The CENTQUATRE-PARIS is also a partner of the City of Pantin and offers several workshop cycles per year during lunch time.

Artistic internships

For each school holiday, with the support of the endowment fund Chœur à l’ouvrage, artistic internships are offered to the nearby children’s activity centers and the local nonprofits partnering with the 19th arrondissement’s city hall.

Projects with the Samusocial

Partnering with Paris’ Samusocial, the CENTQUATRE-PARIS has been offering artistic internships and time slots to welcome children and their parents in emergency shelters since 2017. Each internship is led by an artist duo that guides parents and children as to how best to adapt to the space and ensure them a pleasant experience discovering the CENTQUATRE-PARIS and its on-going exhibition. Weekly time slots are also made available to the resident families of the Samusocial, in collaboration with the Maison des Petits of the CENTQUATRE-PARIS.

The high school students’ Impatience prize

Each season, in close partnership with our collaborator Impatience - emerging theater festival, a group of high school students get to participate to the festival, attending all the representations and  awarding the high school student prize during the closing ceremony. The prize given to the chosen troupe is the opportunity to perform their play at Alfortville’s POC theater. This project aims to promote the voices, opinions and influence of high school students on today’s theater. The group is assisted by Philippe Guyard, director of ANRAT - Association Nationale de Recherche et d'Action Théâtrale (National Association of theatrical research and action.)
