What more is there to learn about the shipwreck of the Medusa that happened in 1816? By organising a fictional tribunal of survivors, the collective les bâtards dorés goes from an anecdote to a political fable. Beyond the sordid episodes of passing madness and cannibalism, the famous raft becomes an allegory of today’s society – with its persisting inequalities and the deadlocks of modern rationality – the vision of a possible, apocalyptic, future.
