In Mockumentary of a Contemporary Saviour, a theatre and dance show, Vandekeybus gives us a subtle portrait of a messiah, fictional character. He/she lives in a world that didn’t want to be saved. In this new creation, Wim Vandekeybus plays the four main characters and their supernatural guardian angels in a futuristic reality. By creating a surreal and indeterminate atmosphere, he encourages us to reflect on our own experience, here and now. Science-fiction and utopia-dystopia are very close. Nothing is as it seems. Mockumentary of a Contemporary Saviour talks indirectly about our society in a timeless manner, with themes like imagination, freedom and superstition.
