With True Copy, the fifth part of the “Horror Vacui” series, the BERLIN collective brings to light the figure of a forger, and not any forger: the painter Geert Jan Jansen, arrested by the French authorities in 1994, with 1 600 canvases of great masters, most of which were fakes. This anecdote transcends simple fraud by bringing into question the notions of “true” and of “false” that are at the base of the economic and judiciary system of the art world.
