Metaphoria III

Nina Beier, Adriano Costa, Rui Costa, Hans-Peter Feldmann, David Horvitz, Kenneth Goldsmith, Ana Jotta, Jeremy Millar, Pepo Salazar, Karin Sander

10.06 > 2018.11.11

Metaphoria III is the third opus of a series of touring exhibitions in Europe that consider contemporary art as a research platform: a dialogue between visual arts and poetry, using the metaphor as a medium. Here we take the metaphor in a literal manner, as the contemporary Greeks hear it: a means of transport. After Portugal and Greece, here it is in France.
This group exhibition includes new works by two artists: Jeremy Millar and Pepo Salazar. Actors and other performers will be invited to take part on weekends. The whole of the creative project, curated by Silvia Guerra, is inspired by an unprecedented novel of the Portuguese writer, Rui Costa, Dialogues of Adam and Eve.

about

Poetry and myths offer themselves willingly as a movement in which to gather several temporalities, where Ancient and recent history come together. They help us explore our ways of living together, of organising a communal space, “our daily one-bedroom flat” where ideas can germinate. It is not a question of analysing, producing a speech on Europe, on art or on language, but of condensing mental images into the framework of an exhibition.
An exhibition as a space for questioning: “What does one do with today’s art? Where does one store one’s memory – in books, on hard drives? What part of its weight does one want to carry?”
An exhibition like a journey or a house that we live in together. Each of its editions is held in a new space with its landscape and context: an archaeology museum in one of the European capitals of culture in the North of Portugal; the last floor of an abandoned building in a prostitution zone of Athens during the ReMap biennial; the CENTQUATRE-PARIS who for more than 120 years was host to the city’s funeral home. Its first hall, rue d’Aubervilliers, was used for the fabrication of coffins. This is where Metaphoria III will take place.
Metaphoria III carries its own history, the memory of its poet who disappeared when creating the hope of a new world where we would want to live together, like Adam and Eve, but without the snake.
