RADIALSYSTEM V

Berlin - Germany

In September 2006, RADIALSYSTEM V was opened as a new space for creative and cultural development in Berlin. The historical name of the building, an old pumping station, indicates the direction that RADIALSYSTEM V seeks to follow: From a central idea, the house develops radiance towards all directions and across the boundaries of the city, drawing in artists and public alike.

The privately owned building serves as a platform for a broad spectrum of partners and a multiplicity of ways of utilisation. It is part of an international network of cooperating partners and is continuously involved in exchange and interaction with operas, concert halls, festivals, colleges and universities, ensembles, orchestras, museums, galleries and independent hosts as well as firms from the creative industry. On top of that, businesses, associations and other institutions use the house. It represents a new way of thinking a cultural institution – a truly international radiance, combined with a new approach to funding that seeks to bring together commerce and the arts.

RADIALSYSTEM V develops interdisciplinary, innovative artistic formats in association with artists, ensembles and other partners and puts them into practice. Different artistic activities enter into dialogue with one another and inspire each other reciprocally. Emphases are in the domains of contemporary dance and Old Music. The ensembles Sasha Waltz & Guests, the Akademie für Alte Musik and the Vocalconsort Berlin are closely connected to RADIALSYSTEM V through their rehearsals, productions and events in the building.

Cultural programmes for children and families are a pivotal part of RADIALSYSTEM V. The house regularly offers cross-generations artistic activities as well as childcare during afternoon events and develops training opportunities in the areas of dance and music for kids and teenagers.

If the weather permits it, the Spree-terrace is open daily from noon; refreshments, hot drinks and some snacks are available. Wireless Internet access, pier and sunset inclusive!
