STABLES' ENGLISH COURTYARDS

LE 19e FLEURIT AU CENTQUATRE [The 19th district blossoms at the CENTQUATRE]

For the two English courtyards at the CENTQUATRE, COLOCO has designed an evolving and participatory garden, focusing on the plants of this area: in fact, the 19th arrondissement contains one of the greatest botanical riches in Paris. With the participation of associations and inhabitants of the 19th arrondissement, the collective plans to harvest a multitude of plants in an educational, entertaining and poetic way. The planting will be carried out according to the needs of the plants in the two courtyards, identical in appearance but made to look asymmetrical. The north-facing walls will be covered with trees of heaven (ailanthus), emblematic trees found on wasteland, building sites, etc. They are fast-growing and have a tendency to become straggly. They also have an astonishing sculptural quality: they can be shaped, trained and trimmed. En masse, they create the illusion of a forest horizon. The trees of heaven were planted in April 2008. Convex mirrors were added to the landscaped installation, distorting one’s view of this enclosed space, extending and distorting the now interactive horizon. The bushes (parrotia persica) were planted on the South side in April 2008 while waiting for the plants from the future harvest.

BIOGRAPHIE

Coloco is part of the artistic command of the City of Paris - 2008.

Coloco was founded in 1999 by:
Nicolas Bonnenfant - architect (France, 1972)
Pablo Georgieff - architect (Buenos Aires, 1971)
Miguel Georgieff - landscape gardeners (Buenos Aires, 1973)

Their skills in geography, biology, architecture and town planning combine to produce a malleable structure capable of adapting to a range of demands. Thus, they can create an experimental play-garden based on water recycling (International Garden Festival of Chaumont-sur-Loire, 1997), design various gardens (in collaboration with Gilles Clément in 2004 on the Vassivière gardens), convert industrial sites into residential sites (Asnières, Paris, Montreuil and São Paulo en 2004), and also draw up instructions for constructing your own landscape.
