As Project Leader of the CENTQUATRE, the City of Paris has chosen to launch a significant public commission for this cultural facility in the spirit of the artistic 1% (which consists, it may be recalled, in compulsorily allotting a sum for the execution of one or more works of contemporary art, on the occasion of the construction or extension of certain public buildings). While the City of Paris is not in fact bound by this rule, it nevertheless wished to make this original commission, and in view of the multi-discipline nature of the place, favoured works which by their form would normally be excluded from the 1%: music, landscaping, design, literature and visual arts.
