Born in 1966, he studied at the Higher National Conservatoire of Dramatic Art. From 1991 to 1993, he was the apprentice of Stanislas Nordey.
Until 1996, he was an actor in the permanent company of the Théâtre des Amandiers in Nanterre.
From 1996, he directed plays by Paul Claudel, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Jean Luc Lagarce, Barry Hall, Oriza Hirata, Jean Genet, Jean Racine, Noëlle Renaude, Pierre Corneille and Roland Fichet.
From 2000, he produced the opera "Forever Valley" by Gérard Pesson, "Kyrielle du sentiment des choses" by François Sahran with libretto by Jacques Roubaud, as well as Handel’s "Agrippina" and "Shadowtime" by Brian Ferneyhough.
Since 2001, he has collaborated with the choreographer Bernardo Montet in France and in Africa.
In 1999, he won the Villa Medicis prize Hors les Murs in Japan. Since then, he has worked as a director and trainer of directors in Japan.
In 2000, he directed a Japanese version of "Nous, les héros" by Jean-Luc Lagarce in Tokyo and "Tokyo Notes" by Oriza Hirata with a Franco-Japanese cast.
In 2003, he directed "Les Paravents" by Jean Genet and toured it in France and Japan. He won the Directing Prize of the Salzburg Festival in that year.
In 2005, he produced "Gens de Séoul" by Oriza Hirata in Japan, in Japanese which was repeated at the Avignon Festival in 2006.
Since January, 2002, he has been the Director of the Vitry Studio-Theatre.
In the summer of 2006, he directed "La pluie des prunes", a feature film, an ARTE co-production that was shot in Tokyo.
In 2007, he was an artist associate of the Avignon Festival.
From 2005 to 2010, Frédéric Fisbach and Robert Cantarella were the two co-directors of the CENTQUATRE.
