REOCUPACION : memory of work
FROM JANUARY, 4 TO JUNE, 30 2010

Gabriela Golder is interested in individual and collective memory, the notions of identity and endurance. At the CENTQUATRE she wants to develop a project in which memory unfolds as a vestige of successive transformations, demolitions and restorations; in a space where visible and erased traces rub up against one another, between memory and oblivion. The creation of a place for meetings and exchanges on the building of ideas and the utopia of projects follows on from her "REOCUPACION" project, a work on the devastating impact of globalization on the Argentinean industrial fabric, devised in different sections, which continues to be developed at the CENTQUATRE.

"A project about workers / about work /about the end or work, about disappearance /about the post-industrial era /about identity / about the devastating impact of globalization on the Argentinean industrial fabric and the workers / about deafening noise, and total silence, afterwards / about the memory of bodies /about the dismissal of thousands of workers whose know-how and expertise accumulated over the years are just written off /about the transformation that wipes out traces of the past and prospects for the future /about the memory of places."
