"Le Tour du Monde en 80 voix"
FROM SEPTEMBER 15 TO OCTOBER 22 2009
Khalid K is devoting his residency at the CENTQUATRE to writing his next show and to bringing the public face to face with his work. He is offering meetings during which performances will be improvised.
Sound and image as well as the body and the voice are central to his new creative output, which makes use of material developed in his previous works. All these elements are handled in real time: from loops, effects, interactivity between audio, video and light, new compositions are born. The use of sensors which detect distance, volume, sound or infrared level, or of surveillance cameras, reinforces interactivity with the machines.

BIOGRAPHY

Khalid K was born in 1965 at Casablanca (Morocco). He arrived in France at the age of four, and very quickly taught himself to play the guitar, creating a musical universe of his own, influenced by his double culture.
His collaboration with Farid Chopel and his group "Chopel and the kids" in the late 1990s completed his musical training.
To start with he chose music made with Midi machines and samples for Hip Hop Phèdre, his rap musical adaptation of Phèdre, before coming back to acoustic instruments for his collaborations with the story-teller Ralph Nataf, the groups "Yan et les Abeilles" and "Les Voisins du dessus", and the Théâtre Alibi from Bastia. The author of one-man shows ("Khalid o sKope" in 1999, "Bienvenue dans ma tête" in 2006 - which he also adapted as "Le Tour du Monde en 80 voix", a version for younger audiences) that regularly feature on programmes in France and abroad (more than 350 performances), Khalid K also works in cinema, education and the running of workshops for young people and the public at large.
