BIOGRAPHY
Founded in Berlin in 2001 by Marc Pouzol and Laurent Dugua, this Studio is now comprised of Marc Pouzol and Marc Vatinel, (landscape artists DPLG and gardeners) and Veronique Faucheur (a trained city planner). Each year since its creation, the Atelier le Balto has made a temporary garden for the Kunst Werke (KW), Berlin's top contemporary art event. In 2002, they installed Le Jardin sauvage (The Wild Garden) for the Palais de Tokyo, a site for contemporary creation, between the street and the building, in the gap between two new footbridges designed by the Lacaton-Vassal architects. Since then, they have created a number of gardens for public cultural or artistic institutions in various European countries such as Italy, Spain, Estonia and Quebec (Metis Garden Festival, 2008).
The members of the Atelier le Balto also co-organise annual events such as Temporäre Gärten founded in 1997 in Berlin, Sommergärten presented in 2003 at Frankfurt-am-Oder (Germany) and Slubice (Poland), as well as Woistdergarten? created in 2005 for a year in Berlin-Mitte. These events were dedicated to the creation of ephemeral gardens and their role in the transformation of urban public spaces.
