Robet

(SOUND ARTIST / FRANCE) STUDIO 10 & PROD. AREA 3

TOMBEAUX OUVERTS
FROM JANUARY, 4 TO JUNE, 30 2010

For her "Tombeaux ouverts" project, the director Jeanne Robet asked volunteers to imagine their own funeral. If speaking about death often proves tricky, imagining one’s own burial is a universal fantasy. After assembling each person’s wishes, Jeanne Robet collects the sounds, noises, atmospheres and melodies that will compose each sound tomb. The packaging serves as compost for the inexpressible, the counterpoint, the interpretation: making light of one’s own death and imagining the audible trace one will leave to those close to one and the world. During her residency, Jeanne Robet will issue an audioblog and alternate public listening sessions and initiatory sound recording and editing workshops. In order to let the great cultural and social diversity that characterizes the district where the CENTQUATRE is situated be heard, neighbouring residents in particular will be invited to take part in the project.

BIOGRAPHY
Sound artist born in 1979, Jeanne Robet studied living languages and
cinema, first at Aix-en-Provence then at Tromsø (Norway) and in London (United Kingdom). In 2003, she moved to Paris and joined the Arte Radio team - www.arteradio.com - as a sound creation coordinator. She produced her first pieces as a central part of a pioneering project relating to the documentary and web sound creation, ranging over sound landscape ("La Belle Istanbul, 2006"), an editing game on language ("Violent Femmes, 2006") and portrait ("Les Bigoudis, 2004"). In addition she engaged in other artistic projects, such as "L’Encyclopédie de la Parole" at the Aubervilliers Laboratories in 2008, or the residency, "Marseille sur Ecoute", offered by Radio Grenouille at the Friche la Belle de Mai Art Center (Marseille), in 2009. With the pieces that emerged from these collaborations, "Timbres" and "Niveau Zéro", she is involved in research into sound form at the frontier of documentary, fiction and electro-acoustic composition. Jeanne Robet also runs radiophonic creation workshops with college pupils, at Bondy (93) and Port-de-Bouc (13).
